Aga Khan University’s Professional Development Centre in Gilgit is seeking committed individuals to join as Education Fellows, with a mission to improve education in Gilgit-Baltistan. Established in 1983, the Aga Khan University (AKU) is Pakistan’s first private international university, recognized for its focus on education, research, and healthcare. The university has collaborated with the School Education Department (SED) of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) to enhance educational governance, improve access to quality education, and engage communities across GB. This opportunity is ideal for candidates dedicated to uplifting the region’s education standards through involvement in the GB Education Fellows project. Education Fellow Positions are open for application in various public institutions throughout GB.
Education Fellows Program Overview
The Education Fellows initiative is funded through a consortium led by AKU, which includes the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Karakoram International University (KIU), and Knowledge Platform. With a grant from the GB Government, this program aims to recruit and train 1,200 Education Fellows to work in various public educational institutions across Gilgit-Baltistan. Most of these positions have been filled, but AKU is now seeking to address remaining vacancies in schools and the Government Girls Degree College in Chilas, Diamer.
Eligibility and Village-Wise Vacancies
Applications are open for dedicated individuals with a passion for education. Candidates must possess a domicile of the specified villages and commit to serving their local communities until June 30, 2025. Below is the village-wise distribution of available positions:

- Hunza: 4 positions
- Shimshal Centre: 3 positions
- Farmanabad: 1 position
- Ghizer: 5 positions
- Thurulti Nalla: 4 positions
- Darmander Nalla: 1 position
- Gilgit: 7 positions
- Kargah: 1 position
- Chamogadh: 5 positions
- Gasho Pahot: 1 position
- Kosuro: 3 positions
- Sikilma: 1 position
- Koltor Katisho: 2 positions
- Shiger: 4 positions
- Arindo: 2 positions
- Hoto Braldo: 1 position
- Chongo Braldo: 1 position
- Diamer: 8 positions (Various villages with female-only positions)
Eligibility Criteria for School Education Candidates
- Preferred Qualification: Candidates with 16 years of education or higher in core subjects (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English, Computer Science) from an HEC-recognized university.
- Alternative Qualification: Candidates with 16 years of education in relevant subjects such as MPhil or MA Education, if science-subject candidates are unavailable.
- Additional Preference: Candidates with 14 years of education in science or related subjects.
- Minimum Qualification: Intermediate (12 years of education) in science or relevant subjects for candidates from underserved areas.
Government Girls Degree College Chilas, Diamer
In addition to school positions, six contract-based Education Fellow positions are open at the Government Girls Degree College Chilas. The criteria for these positions are as follows:
- Minimum Qualification: Female candidates with a Master’s degree or higher in subjects such as Urdu, Mathematics, Physics, Islamiat, Pakistan Studies, or Sociology.
- Preference: Female candidates with prior teaching experience at the Government Girls College Chilas.
Requirements for Govt Girls Degree College Chilas Candidates:
- Candidates must attend mandatory professional development trainings.
- A 7-month contract concluding on June 30, 2025, is required.
- Candidates must present their original degrees during the interview process.
Selection Process
Selection will follow a two-phase process:
- Initial Screening: Academic qualifications, marks, and residence location.
- Further Assessment: Shortlisted candidates will participate in an interview, test, and teaching demonstration.
