The University of British Columbia (UBC) announced that applications for the four-year Doctoral Fellowship (4YF) program are now open for 2024! This prestigious fellowship offers financial support to UBC’s top PhD, DMA, and MDPhD students, providing at least $18,200 per year plus tuition for up to four years. The 4YF program helps UBC attract and support outstanding doctoral students from around the world, ensuring they have stable, base-level funding for their studies and research.

Fellowship Benefits

  • Financial support of at least $18,200 per year plus tuition for up to four years of doctoral studies.

Eligibility

  • – Fellowships are open to both domestic and international students.
  • – Typically offered to students starting their first year of full-time PhD, DMA, or MD PhD studies but may also be available to continuing students.
  • – Funding is provided for up to four years, subject to satisfactory academic progress.
  • – Students holding certain Tri-Agency awards (e.g., Vanier Scholarships, Doctoral Canada Graduate Scholarships, CIHR Doctoral Research Awards, NSERC Doctoral Postgraduate Scholarships, SSHRC Doctoral Fellowships) automatically qualify for 4YF designation.
  • – Doctoral students with Tri-Agency scholarships may receive 4YF tuition coverage and stipends once their external scholarship funding ends, up to four years from the external award start date or until the end of their fifth year in the doctoral program, whichever comes first.
  • – Other major external scholarship winners selected as 4YF designates may also be eligible for similar benefits.
